Which pythons do not have heat pits?

Tigergenesis Jan 26, 2004 06:28 PM

So far I've come up with the following:

~ Black Headed Python
~ Woma
~ Ringed Python
~ Papuan Olive Python

It seems these are the only ones - or am I mistaken? Just curious.

black headed and womas lack pits. both ringed pythons (Bothrochilus boa) and papuan pythons (Apodora papuana), which is NOT an olive python (Liasis olivaceous), both have pits. if i had a camera id pull out my papuan and get some shots for you.

Thank you for the corrections. I have a book that lists those 4 species as not having heat pits. It's a little outdated (as it still lists all boas as giving live birth) so I'm trying to write in any corrections.

this book lists the common name for Apodora papuana as Papuan Olive Python and the common name for Liasis olivaceus as Olive Python. Are these common names incorrect?

Yes basically. But saying Papuan Olive Python has lead alot of peopel to beleave that they are the same as an olive python. They are very different. most folks who know better just call them Papuan's.
