I just use Peatmoss for my humid hides and egg laying containers. Seeing as the humid hide doubles as the egg laying container, lol.

Many times potting soil has a very high nitrogen content, which may not be suitable for egg incubation. If you do use potting soil, make absolutely sure it does not contain any additives... especially fertilizer. It should be moistened and put in the microwave oven long enough for the heat to kill any bacteria or other potentially harmful material that may be present.
A bag of vermiculite will cost you less than $2.00, and fill 20-30 deli cups, and is 100% safe. So why gamble?
