breeding question

ryan465 Jan 26, 2004 08:38 PM

ok heres my question. im wondering how long i should leave the male and female together. i put them together and they did their thing for about 15- 20 minutes and then they both just sorta walked away. last year i just put them together for the one time and that seemed to work. should i just stick with that or leave them together a little longer.

I haven't bred yet, but I think after mating, you don't need to worry unless he didn't manage to actually mate, ie didn't 'mount' her... I think they store it for a while also to fertilize several clutches

i think its alright to leave your male with your female only if there are other females that the male can mate with. but if your only trying to mate the male with one female, then its best to separate them. i left the male with my 1 hy female last season, and it seemed to put stress on both of the herps.
