Superworms & mealworms

kg Jan 26, 2004 08:55 PM

Can I keep an argentine horned frog on a staple diet of Superworms and mealworms? Mealworms for when it's a juvenile and supers when it's an adult..

I had a horned frog a year or two ago, but he ate fuzzies and crickets, mostly fuzzies. I'm not sure if it could get impacted from the chitin, since my old frog digested bones from the fuzzies pretty well.

Just asking since I always have a steady supply of mealworms and superworms to feed my lizards.

Thanks..

You were right on when you were talking about the chiton. It can impact them. Notice how if you feed mealies/supers once, you will still see traces of chiton for up to a month or two later. They are good things to add for variety, but a poor staple. They also are somewhat lacking in most areas of nutrition. And BTW, mice have been removed from the list as an acceptable food item for amphibians.

Hissing Cockroaches are just as easy to breed as mealworms, and are more appropriate than mealworms. DO NOT feed mice to amphibians. Crickets and nightcrawlers are great staples for most amphibians.

Well the mice were from a couple years ago.. no one told me then I'll stick with the crix and the nightcrawlers then. Thanks for your advice.
