Aviary substrate

mitchstrat05 Jan 26, 2004 09:25 PM

Hi,
I have just got an aviary to keep some of my lizards in and i was wondering what sort of substrates other people have used in outdoor enclosures. The aviary has a mesh floor (about 1.5cm by 1.5cm) that I want to cover completely.
I want to use cypress pine mulch but i have heard that this can cause gut impactions - i thought i might be able to put in a large tray to keep the food and water bowls on to keep these separate from the substrate. Has anyone had any thoughts/experience with this?
Thanks,
Mitch

G'day mitch!

I know a guy in Scummerville that I've purchased a couple of blueys off and he just uses leaf litter and stuff like that. personally - I like what james has said and I would even use artificial turf in the avairy. It's just cleaner and ticks don't hide in it! By the - I got your email mate - Sorry I haven't replied - I went away to Mansfield and got burnt. You should see my sunglass mark! It's soooo Pronounced!!!
