Feeding Question

grafitti12 Jan 26, 2004 10:39 PM

My beardie is about 8". How many crickets a day should I be feeding him? He gets 10-15 small crickets(dusted) daily along with fresh greens and veggies. Is that enough crickets for him? I've looked at many websites and they don't seem to outline how many to actually feed your dragon.

At this size I guess he's very young. You should feed him crickets two or maybe even three times a day (dusting them at one of those feedings), and let him eat as many crickets as he wants. You'll notice when he starts acting uninterested in the crickets, and that's when he's done. 10-15 crickets a day is not very much for a growing dragon, so he might surprise you when you give him as many as he wants to eat. Mine used to eat 40-50 crickets every day when she was growing up.

By the way you phrased your question, I know this isn't exactly what you want to hear (and ALOT of people ask the same question when they first get a dragon). You'll feed them as many is they can eat in 5-10 mins. Sometimes it's 10-15, sometimes it's 50-75 crickets. It's different for each dragon, their age, what else they ate, what mood their in and so on. There's no rule. Most new owners think the dragon's going to explode after a while. They usually eat more crickets then you'd think their stomach can even hold. But after a while they'll stop chasing them around and go bask, that's how you know when they're done.
