Traveling problem what to do

UroJade Jun 06, 2003 09:13 PM

i have to go to Jersey tomorrow and wont be back till tuesday probably i know all my lizards will be ok till then cuase we have a freind take care of the dogs, but she wont touch bugs and i have a baby beardie about three months old that'll only eat crickets if their right in front of her or fed by hand and she wont eat greens or pellets by herself. i dont want to take her with me becuase im gonna be someplace differnt each day, and i dont want to stress her out.
i put crickets in a small plastic container so the person that feed the dogs can shake them in but she's not gonna take um out if the baby doesnt eat them cuase she's afraid.

and the babys light doest have a timer and i cant switch timers with another tank cuase her tree prong plug doest fit them.
normaly i'd say well ok i think she'll be fine with the light on for three days she can go in the hide if its to hot, BUT i bought her a murcury vapor bulb and i dont feel comfortable leaving that on 24 hours a day for 3 days

i would have planned ahead but i completely forgot that we were going

is my only option to take her with me?

Sounds like you may have to, unless anyone on the forum is from your area and makes an offer to babysit. Or even from the Jersey area...
Can't hurt to post and ask.

that way you can control many beardies tanks with one power strip and one timer.

Will your dogsitter touch other types of insects? (waxworms or silkworms, if you can get them before you go?) If she won't remove the crickets from the cage, do you have a smaller tank she can put the beardie in to feed it, this way she won't have to touch the crickets, just the beardie (assuming she will handle the bearded of course).

If you have been keeping track of roughly how many crickets the bearded eats each meal, the dogsitter could try and shake out only that amount of crickets and hopefully they will all be eaten. She can also leave in a small dish of greens in a dish shallow enough for crickets to get in and out, this way, if crickets are left in the bearded dragon's cage, they will hopefuly eat the greens instead of your brearded dragon.

As for lights, you could buy a three prone timer, or ask your dog sitter to turn the lights on in the morning and off at night.
