I took in a Mali Uromastyx three days ago, from an old people's home that had changed hands. He seemed fairly healthy. All of his parts intact, but in full shed. I have two other Mali's, and I am keeping this one the same as the others. High temps, hiding spots, birdfeed substrate. We have kept Mali's for a couple of years, and have not had any previous problems.
So, today, three days after I get this new male mali, I look in on him, and his tail is falling apart/off. The tip had shriveled to nothing, overnight, and several of his spikes are just literally falling off. It is completely gross. I am assuming that the problem is tail rot, but I can't seem to find any info on how to deal with it. Is it something that I can treat at home, or does he need to see a vet? Other than the tail falling apart, today, he "seems" in good health. He's chubby, well hydrated, eats like a horse, sassy as heck. HELP! Will his spikes grow back? Is he going to die?
