New Crestie

RedQuake Jun 06, 2003 09:20 PM

I now have a new memeber of the family, a baby crested gecko. His/her name is Zeek, for now anyways He's doing great, eating well and showing me his curious personality. He has a very huge interest in my dog.....everytime Chip comes into the room Zeek comes to the glass. I do have a 25gal tall tank set up but right now thats way to big for him so he's in a 10gal hexegon tank with lots of artificial plants, a log and a feeding container. I read in one of the previous messages about bowl feeding and i thought i'd give it a try. I did put a few crickets in the cage and he has caught a few but there were still some there. Upon putting in the container of crickets he caught on quite quickly. The only problem is that despite the sticky feet thing, i have seen him get half way up the container then slide back down. It usually takes him a couple of trys to get out once he's in there. Its a plastic, transparent tupperware container. Would a glass bowl be better? Also i dust all crickets with calcium/Vit D3 before each feeding, is this Ok? I'm hoping the picture turns out, i'm going to try to post one. If anyone has any suggestions or comments, please feel free to let me know

the bowl shouldn't be that deep....or you should either put it under a branch where he can get to it....or bury it into ur substrate like i did.....pinch the back legs & the crix won't jump out...they just scmamper around til they get eatin up....or so I'm told. =o)

Ok i'll use a bowl thats more shallow. For substrate i'm using a thick layer of paper towels. I've run into problems with substrate with my leopard geckos and i feared the same with Zeek, especially the way he dive bombs those crickets. I have hand fed him...he missed the cricket and hit my finger. I was surprised, not only cause he did that one day after i bought him but that his strike was so hard. He's definitely strong

Thankyou for your input. I really appreciate it
