Question About Genetics of Tremper Giants.....

JoeD Jan 27, 2004 08:09 AM

Has anyone hatched out any Giants from a Giant to het Giant breeding. I have 1.2 Giants I got from Ron last year. I breed him to almost all of my other females. I even was able to breed him to one of his daughters from a normal mom. The observation I have made about the resulting hatchlings is this. This is a simple recessive trait like he claims, at least in my opinion. Both the hatchlings hatched on the same day and have had the exact same temps, food, and such but there is a HUGE difference between the two. One of the two girls is approx 4-0-50% bigger than the other one. Anyone want to weigh in on this? Do u think it is a simple recessive or a line breed trait as many people are saying????

Which pairing are you talking about? If you are talking about the pairing with him and one of his daughters from a normal mom then that daughter would be het for giant, so theoretically 50% giant 50% het for giant.

That is exactly what I am saying. There are many people out there that believe this is a line breed trait and not a simple recessive one like Tremper claims. I however am now of the thought that this is a simple recessive trait like Tremper claims......

Hey

Good topic I think it is simple recessive ron has had giants since in 1999 i think. So by now if thats what he says that thats correct unless hes lieing. which i doubt. He has guarenteed het for ginats available. plus his first giant was breed to a normal sived albino got hets breed em back and got more giants.
They look different giants and normals in length and all.

When did Ron start selling the het for Giants? He told me he was not selling them b/c he did not need to breed the giants to normals b/c he had more than enough giant females. I know he is selling Giants that are het albino but had not heard of the het giants.

Hey

Im not sure he still has them but like 3 months ago he told me he had some to spare that were no longer needed in his efforts because the morph had been established.

I believe giants were first made alvailabel at the daytona expo two years ago.

I could be wrong though

Luckily I got my 1.2 in Jan/Feb of last year so I have tons of hets. I lucked out and got a male Giant that is also het jungle. Imagine my surprise when those 2 lil beauties popped up. I breed him to patternless, het patternless, and super hypo tangs females. Looks like I will have an intersting year......

I don't know. I guess maybe I am a little naive, but with the amount of gecks that Ron Tremper has produced, I tend to believe what he says. I think it would be detrimental to his reputation to build his business on lies. I guess when you are the biggest, people will be gunning for you.

You can never have just one gecko. Actually it is almost impossible to have two
