Experts around?

Vic Jan 27, 2004 08:51 AM

Heya from Holland everybody.

How to tell if a frillie does have eggs?
(if you think you can "see" I can send you a picture)
My frillie is growing and eating like crazy at the moment, but I never saw them mate.

For about 3 weeks the male is bobbing around and the females are turning their heads in low circles.
I guess typical breeding behavior.
Last 3 days one of the females spent her time mostly on the ground.
I've got a can (14x14x6 inch) with sand and peat dust mixed together.

Anyone out there with some more advice or tips for me?

Thank in advange...

Hate to answer anything that calls for an "expert", but yes, sounds like you have some gravid girls. Males bobbing, females head circling and being on the ground a lot is breeding behavior. Unfortunately, I've found that knowing when they are going to lay is very difficult. While breeding they all seem to eat a lot and look like balloons, then they lay one day! Some of my girls stop eating for a couple days prior to laying, sometimes they dont.
Just have that box ready and look for digging!
Best of luck!

First of all, thank you for your reply.
The "balloon" girl still runs around her cage while the male is biting her neck.
So I guess she's still not gravid.
But it's a great view to look at their breeding behaviour =)
Having patience isn't one of my strongest sides hehehehe

Again thanks for your time and reply...

greets from Holland....
