Jackson feeding question

Skye3 Jan 27, 2004 09:04 AM

Hello everyone - quick question about food item size...

if you've ever kept bearded dragons then you know the crickets shouldn't be larger than the distance between the dragons eyes due to larger prey items causing impaction

is this, or similar, the case with Jacksons chameleons, or can you feed them crickets as large as they will take? The animals in question is kept by a friend, is 5 months old, and is being fed almost full-sized crickets.

It looked wrong to me, but I wanted to find out before I said anything

Thanks in advance, Skye

it's pretty much the same with chameleons. it has to do with digestion as well. they don't seem to digest larger prey as well, but i have fed my chameleons huge silkworms with no problem before. it may just be due to the hard exo-skeleton.

if all your friend can get is adult crickets then tell him to just feed the males...i know it's a waste of crickets but at least he'll be feeding a decent sized item
