mid-winter shed, to feed?

reuben Jan 27, 2004 11:05 AM

I began cooling down my snakes last month and temps are down to 22 degrees celcius. They're off food for two weeks now, and I was about to drop temps down below 20. All of a sudden my female amel shed and keeps looking at me in anticipation of a meal (anthropomorphism?). Should I feed her, or continue into winter?

IMHO is to keep the hiberation sequence going. It is going to take about 3 weeks to get back to this point if you feed now so why not keep going? The shed is rather random in occurrance relative to the seasons so it happens in the wild too - there it does not seem to be a problem shedding as hibernation sets in..

I have a Albino Motley female in her second winter of hiberation. I cut food off on 12/01, heat off on 12/20 and into the 'cold' on 1/1/04. When I moved her to the cold she had gone blue phase and dull appearence. I kept her on hibernation schedule. She is still in the blue/dull stage but acts normally in hibernation.

Any other opinions??
