White banded Scarlet King

Downwardspiral Jan 27, 2004 11:15 AM

This is my big female scarlet king. She has no black on her head and white bands. She also has a ringed and checkard belly. She was wild caught and took pinks from the start.

very clean markings....do you have a mate? is she brumating now? whats the locale (?NC)

I got her from a guy that had wild caught scarlet kings from Fla.,South Carolina and North Carolina but he could not remember which she was from. My guess is probably North Carolina. I have a Florida Scarlet king male which I plan to breed her to in the spring.

I would likely say SC as it has intermediate pattern and head. The "newspaper"white is more typical of a inland locale maybe on the western part of the state....I have also seen some like that around Ft Bragg,NC.Some nice specimens....What else do you have?? Jeff

I've never seen an adult scarlet king in central Florida with white bands. The hatchlings have white bands which turn yellow as they age.

Just thinking not from Florida

I have seen a few pictures of similar snakes from Craven County, North Carolina. This female and a Florida male are the only scarlet kings I currently have. Here is another pic. of the female.

I like that last snake, do you have a full body shot? J.D.

not now, will have one when I pull her out of brumation. she is gorgeous but my only one to refuse pinks no matter what. she knows she is a knockout and demands lizards. she will rip f/t anoles, skinks, and fence lizards right out of my fingers. like all scarlet kings she eats anole eggs like they were crack.

some new pics of that apricot you have. It sure is a beauty. For that matter, I hope to see all the little guys and gals you have make an appearance someday. Later on-Brett

How did you get such a nice close up on a scarlet?! Really nice lookin snake btw. It's hard to believe that's an adult. But I saw the proof.lol Later on-Brett

Has anyone noticed that the male scarlet kings tend to be the ones with wider bl;ack bands with more black encroaching on the red? Or did I just happen to catch males like that coincidently.
