Smooth Softshell not eating

WJBioman Jan 27, 2004 11:17 AM

I have had my smooth softshell hatchling for about 3 months now and when i first got her she ate all of the time, but now she never eats. she just rips the food apart and it falls to the bottom. i am using the same food as always but she hasn't been eating for about 3 weeks now and is starting to get really skinny. I can see her ribs showing she is getting soskinny. Any tips to getting her appetite back?

What are you feeding her? Try something that moves to get interested in it. Try some guppies, some turtle sticks, etc.

I agree, try some rosies or crickets. Also, what is the temp of her water? If this is a hatchling I would keep the water around 78, if its an adult keep the water around 75.

i have tried the live food thing both of crickets and rosies and neither of them have worked. i have kept the rosies in there for about 2 weeks now and they are eating most of the turtle sticks that i put in. the water is prob. a little colder than it should at about 70 degrees. i have incresed the temp 2 times and it has not made them any more active. the smooth softshell is getting very skinny showing her ribs very well now what so i do so as to not lose her????
