Closet Environment

svinarsk Jan 27, 2004 01:56 PM

A couple days ago I started to build with will be my igs new habitat. It is in a closet about 8 feet tall, 6 feet wide, and 6 feet deep. Since the closet is in the basement (where my room is, which is indeed a furnished basement), I first built a false floor which is about 4 inches taller than the original floor and had insulation inbetween it original floor and the new one. I the proceeded to caulk every crack in the entire closet (very thoroughly). I also got some SevereWeather Outdoor High-Gloss paint and double coated the walls. This way I can keep my humidity at around 80% at all time and not build up mold. From the top of the ceiling I am now hanging a long UVA/UVB strip as well as 2 100W Daylight lights and a 100W Ceramic Bulb. I guessing the temp will be about 105-70@night. I will soon post pics of the whole process.

The problem is, I am thinking about shelving and plants and which plants are safe to have for my ig. Or, if I should get artificial plants. Also, where I can find those huge vine/sticks to fit an environment of this size for my little friend to climb on?

Any suggestions would be great! Thanks.

-Philipp

ohh... I also forgot to add that I used lenolium for the floor. For the front of the closet I got a huge piece of plexi-glass that will be placedon-and-removed. The vent is a fine screen that is stretched on and nailed down across it. Everything is secured by wood. Making a perfect seal for no critters to journey in.

You may want to lay some rubber roofing over your vinyl flooring to ensure no moisture gets through from the igs. There is rubber roofing for flooring on all of our "room enclosures" and we have never had a problem. However, a friend of ours only used the vinyl flooring on the bottom of his monitors cage and it rotted his floor out.
