is 100W too much?

Chuck420 Jan 27, 2004 02:58 PM

i was wondering if 100w bulb is too strong for a corn? in the cage the temps are just under 80 on the warm side and about 72-75 on cool..i am moving her from a 20 long to a 29 gallon basically the same length just alot deeper so i plan on building a level system for her..with a heatpad on the warm side it doesnt bring it up too much because i only leave it on low and i just have it for the nightime temps incase they get too low..so does anyone think it would be too strong for her and she would have stress? or even worst die ? i dont want to put her in it yet as i dont have the exact temps set with everything in there temps might drop i dont know tho if anyone thinks its too strong please let me know thanks

The watt of the bulb is secondary to that you need to know what temps it is creating. The best thing is get an accurate thermometer and check the temps. Best would be to get a digital thermometer/humidity gauge type that has a memory for high and low. That way you will know how low it is getting and how high. I am guessing you will want closer to a 75 watt...but it is only a guess and your really need to measure the temps.

Failure is not an option. It comes bundled with the software.

I don't see much difference in my 10 gal and 20 gal tanks. I have a whole collection of bulbs from 40 watt to 100 watt. I use white bulbs during the day and red or green at night, just so I can see the snakes. My tanks get a little cooler at night. That doesn't seem to cause any problems. I've had the 100 watt bulbs in the last couple of days. It got down to 20 last night. My house is old and a little on the drafty side.

ok cool i will have to pick up a digi thermomater instead of the cheaper ones i have now, they gague humidity, i am just not too sure how accurately. cool so i basicly have one of the new tanks set then i just need to build some stuff to go in it like levels and everything i will not put them in until im sure that the temps are perfect for them though, thanks for the help i wasnt sure whether the wattage/brightness of the light would bug the snake but i guess it all does depend on the heat thanks alot
