Update and questions

My gecko that wasn't eating ate 1 cricket finally... I am still worried...

I guess my question is, how can I not stress them out when feeding them by removing the hide? They don't leave because they are not comfortable, but they don't wander out yet, and they need to eat, and I am just making them more uncomfortable/more stressed by removing it... what can I do?

so your leos still myte not be comfortable with the new surroundings. try just removing the screen(if u have one) and drop one or two crix in, without touchin or removin any of the hides. usually the crix will go into the hides cuz its dark. check in about an hour, if u can see if there are any crix left without havin to remove any hides then that is best. if you cant removin the hides for a second wont hurt. btw how long have u had the leos in the enclosure since purchasing em.

I have had them for three or four days

I wouldn't remove the hides. Try feeding in the evening when they are more likely to be active. Put in the crix, close the cage and leave them alone for a bit. You could also buy some mealworms and put them in a dish near the hide opening, that way they can just stick their heads out to snack!

Hmm the mealworms just aren't active enough to get their attention, I saw some in the pet shop that were squirming like crazy but mine just sit there unless I poke them. But I will try putting the dish in fron of the main hide

Is it bad I keep them in a dark area and no lamp?

Hey

I think i might be able to help you with the patternless not eating much I saw the pic below and it looks smaller than the other geckos. Im sure he would grow and eat quicker if you got him a 12qt rumbermaid from walmart put paper towels in it food dish water dish moist hide from a lil lunch contianer and a toilet paper roll center. As for mealworms not moving put some of there food in there with the bowl just a small pinch and try not usin as much calcium this should speed them up.

For example of housing. I had a gecko housed with another gecko 3 days ago one gecko 30 grams one 32grams in a tengallon. I put the 30 gram gecko in a set up like I told you and weighed her to day 3 days later and she weighs 33.8grams thats alot of difference in 3 days. All my geckos grow quicker and healthyer by themselves just give this set up a small corner about 4x4inchs of the heat pad on the humid hide side and you have a full force young gecko growing machiene.

Hope this helps

Actually the patternless eats pretty good, he was born small is all, the one that doesn't eat is the one on the far left in the below picture. I am going to seperate the non eater tomorrow unless he/she picks up.

I guess I could just seperate my big tank into 3 sections and get the 60 gallon heat pad and run it longways.

greatgobsofgecko Jan 27, 2004 08:25 PM

you would still be best off to get the 12qts at walmar there like 3.37$ with the lid I take a soldering gun and melt holes in it they turn out nicely. Then a get some shelf liner put it inthere on top of paper towels also two 12qt can split most heat pads.

How much do soldering guns/irons cost? I don't think I have one right now... I guess I could just heat up a screwdriver or something though :P

What kind of heat pad should I use? The reptile ones get too hot for plastic right?

greatgobsofgecko Jan 27, 2004 08:46 PM

Hey

You can get a soldering gun for like 10$ if not less. Im not sure what I paid for mine but I take eletronics in highschool and solder circut boards and percise stuff and I no i didnt pay more than 20$

I use reptile heat pads for it and human heat pads just set it up and check everything before putting the geckos in it the 12qt containers have 4 3mm indentions in the corners so it all wont be in contact with the heat pad.

Right now I use natures heat heaters by four paws and some human ones on low.

Email me if you have anyother ?s Im on there more than here.

Okay. I am not sure if your question has been answered to your satisfaction yet, but I thought I would try to lend a hand. Your geckos seem to still be quite young, and your patternless is a tiny little thing. I would not suggest removing the hides, not even to feed them. If they are nervous, taking their only refuge out will stress them even more. As I believe you stated. Have you tried taking the mealies out of the bowl, and putting them onto to papertowel? Sometimes little ones can be quite picky about the way they eat. Or sometimes they don't know there is food in the bowl. The mealies usually move more if they are out of the bowl. My geckos have given me a scare, by not eating before. I know how worried your can get. Eventually though hunger has always won out. If there is nothing phisically wrong with your geckos, they will eat eventually. I would suggest you take the little one out of the tank though, even if you don't see any aggresive behavior from the other two there can still be bullying going on. I have always had Boo and Popeye in the same cage together, and I never really had any problem. However, I have had my patternless in his tank alone since I got him. He is twice the size that Boo and Popeye were at his age. I believe it has alot to do with the fact that he had no compitition. Well, I hope this help you out some. Good Luck

Hmm I think I will worry about the one not eating anything than the piglet lol.

I am working on a second take for the non eater now, and I think I will try to rig up a seperator for the big tang for the two other guys.

Sorry, I should have read the posts more carefully. I hope I was of some help anyway. Keep us updated on how it goes.

I moved the not eating leo to another tank, I'll post a picture of it if someone wants. He still isn't eating, just sitting in the hide, probably a little miffed at being moved.

The geckos in the other tank are more active now though.
