I'd like to know the significance of "FAT PADS" myself!!

**KILL 'EM WITH KINDNESS**
Fat pads on the head are a sign of a healthy, well fed, well hydrated dragon. Growing dragons fat pads aren't prominent like adults.....but as Christy said they should never seem sunken or indented.

was wondering because POGO doesn't have those yet, but as you stated most growing beardie's won't have them and he's still only 5-6 mos old....Either way I understand what they are for now!

I have a female about 2 years old. She is almost as round as a ball. Very plump and solid... but the fat pads in her head are sunken in and she does not have a big thick tail. Her fat pads in her head sunk in last year and I thought she was gravid. They never came back up again. She is active, eats like a pig and seems otherwise healthy. Any thoughts?

That is very strange Bennett.....usually the fat pads on the head are the last to loose fat, tail and hind legs first.....they are often the first to show signs of dehydration though. That's a mystery, what's your vet say?

I took her in to see him about 6 months ago and he said other than the fat pads on her head she seems perfectly fine. He said unless there is other symptomology, don't worry about it. Just one of natures mysteries. I will get a pic of her today to post.

Will look for the pic.....just more proof that they are all a little different and what's normal for most may not be normal for an individual.

Is it bad if my dragon doesn't have those he is still fairly young. He has a semi-fat tail base though.
Young dragons fat pads aren't quite as pronounced, but they definately should not be sunken in or indented.
