Hi everyone,
Could you all give me the brand name and type (ie Kroger PuppyChow) of the dog food that you have successfully used with your mice?
Thanks in advance,
Taylor

I go to Petsmart, and buy their "Adult" dog food. It is in a green bag, comes in 50 lb size only, and has some other name to it. It's the cheapest dog food they have in that store. I've tried expensive dog foods, and other varieties of cheap dog food, but the mice seem to have a preference for that dog food far above any other dog food available to them. They often even ignore dog food they don't like and starve themselves to death if I get them another variety.

The one that Pet Smarts employees led me to that went by Shasheena's description was called Grrrreat Choice. It was in a green bag with Adult written across the front... and it was their cheapest brand. My store had 50 and 22.5 pound sizes though.... so I'm hoping it was the same kind she were talking about.

Hubby just bought me a bag of Purina Dog Chow (he thought it was a good bargain) and now I have uneaten food in the cages nad the mice look starved again. I swear, once I gave them that Grrreat Choice or whatever it's called, they will NOT look at another dog food!

I'm beginning to wonder if these critters get used to something and if you try to change them to something else... it doesn't work very well. Or not right off anyway. I gave a few morsels of the Grrrreat Choice to my mice to change them over slowly, and a lot of them wouldn't touch it, and the ones that did got loose stools (which I thought might happen). One got impacted(?)though and I lost her.... and when I saw another with a plugged fanny... I, for the first time in my life, gave a mouse an enema. You should have seen the look on her face... and mine. Anyway.... she is doing fine now, but I must admit I took them off of the new brand for now. I already had a cut back on production with changing thier original formula from 75% Mazuri Rodent chow, and 25% Ole Roy dog food and Game Cock seeds.... to 75% Ole Roy and seeds, and 25% Mazuri Rodent chow. I'm now changing back to my original forumla to see if things get back to normal again.
But don't get me wrong.... I'm not saying that one formula or brand of dog food is better than another... just that I'm wondering if mice just get used to something and it's hard to switch them to something else. Any thoughts on this idea?
I LOVE these forums....

Purina Dog Chow. Everything else was too expensive, colored or too small to keep in the hardware cloth basket feeders. The Purina is 10 bucks for a 20 or 15 for a 40. The last time the 40 pound was on sale for 12.99. Is this Grrreat Choice stuff cheaper?
for the last several months i've been using the dog food that my local farm and ranch store makes. its called intermountain farmers assoc. farm and ranch dog food. $12 for a 50# bag. I'm in the process of trying to find an affordable source for harlan 2018 rodent diet. if anyone has ideas let me know. thanks Chris

aha! so I am not the only one who thought a cross section paper shredder would make good bedding for rodents!
