PLEASE HELP with cage temps getting a little frustrated!

BeardedDragon357 Jan 27, 2004 05:17 PM

No matter what I do I can't get the temp up on te cooler side side and get the temp down on the hotter side. Temps on the hotter side at mid day are 100 degrees. and on the cooler side 78. Humidity is at an average of 45% but a high of 49%. I am curious if 100 is to hot for a basking spot. I realize they say 92-94 but will this burn the snake or be too hot, or do some of you have high temps? Also any suggestions will be appreiated.
Thanx
Tyler

P.S. I will be getting a baby albino green burm.

P.S.S. I need help with humidity please

Tyler,
What size water dish do you have in your enclouser? What you can do is put a bigger water dish in the cage that might do it.How many lights do you have in/on your enclouser? DO you havea theaostaut? That will lower the temps! !

GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR NEW BURM

For a baby burm, 100 deg F. is pretty warm and you run the risk of overheating the entire cage. Our large burm (18' ) lives in a 12' cage where the hot spot does reach close to 100 degress (under a pro product radiant heat panel) and the cool end is around 80 but there is plenty of floor and air space to prevent overheating. Describe your cage, set up, how you heat, etc.

I hvae a 40 gallon breeder that measures 36"L 18"D 16" High.
It has a built in screen top also lockable(I know they are a escape route for heat and humidity but it is a temporary cage).
Paper towels for substrate (so I can monitor the burm just incase they have mites).
A water dish 2" deep with a 10" diameter

My Temps fluxuate during the day. In the morning basking spot is at 82 and cooler end at 79. Midday basking spot 100 and cooler side at 85. Night basking spot 94 and cooler end 83.
Thanx in advance for the help.

If those are ambient temps that doesn't sound too bad....burms tend to seek out temps in the low 80 to upper 80 range (but will on occasion seek out basking sites in the low to mid 90's). With a cage like that, I would think that you could adequately heat it with an ESU or Pearlco ceramic heating element of appropriate wattage that could be left on continually....and perhaps a thermostatically controlled heat pad on the same end.
