distance between cages

gutloader Jan 27, 2004 07:15 PM

i'm setting up the cage for my female jax...i was curious as to how far her cage would have to be from the males for them both to feel comfortable...i could probably do some furniture re-arranging to block them from seeing eachother but that will entail taking down shelves and a bunch of other crap so....what's a comfortable distance?

Just put a towel or something between the cages. Sometimes people make reptile keeping complicated but it really isn't.
If you have bushy plants inside it won't matter anyway..

they need a vivual barrier...bushy plants wont work too well

i have found that using a towl that is damp helps with humidity a lot and keeps them out of each others sight.

I use aluminum foil between the cages. It's clean, easy to work with, and you can hardly see that it's there.

If you don't want to hang a towel between cages you can hang a piece of cheesecloth or opaque plastic sheeting instead. So long as their view is blocked it doesn't really matter what you use. If the cages are on separate walls of the room they can see across to the other cage, so it may be easiest to put them side by side with a barrier. They can share lights and a fogger too that way.

i'll have to figure something out..i keep all my herps in the basement..it's a finished basement that the whole family uses at one time or another so alot of space is taken up by couches, tv's, video games (i have pole position, the arcade, please someone take it!!), shelves full of videos etc....i'm going to have to do some rearranging is suppose

Carlton's right again! Cheesecloth is excellent because it still permits air flow.
