grass in iguana cage?

mike d Jan 27, 2004 07:55 PM

i am going to be redoing my little iguanas cage. he will have hopefull by next week a little pond thing in his cage with a running filter and heater(i will make it so he cant get at it). and i was wondering if it would be fine if i planted some grass in the enclosure. it will give him places to hide. keep the humidity up. and make it look better.

i also have another question
i know all about the stuff about keeping different speices together but my iguana and water dragon are getting along very well. i put them in the same cage when i was cleaning the cages out and they instantly bonded. they went to the highest branch and fell asleep next to each other. so i took them out and put them in their seperate enclosures. and a day later i said what the hell and i put them in the same cage(i watched very carefully for about 6 days and there was no sign of agression.) they both eat great(the water dragon is fed out side of the cage) so i am wondering if i should seprate them? or leave them until they both get bigger and then seperate them?

thanks Mike d

Hi Mike,

Planting grass may sound like a great idea, but your iguana will have it eaten within a day. Plus how would you keep it clean? As for keeping the iguana with the dragon, it's not usually a good idea to keep several species together, even if they seemingly get along.

Hope this helps!

Dont keep the dragon and Iguana together. Iguanas get extremely tertorial as they get older. How old is he anyway? He looks good and healthy. I keep clover in my iggys cage. I let it grow and then put it in the cage. Then once he has moed it off, I take it out and let it grow.

i know that iguana get territorial when they are older. i have an older iguana. they are the same size around 16 inches or so. i never intended to keep them together but they get along great. they were both rescues and they were both in with other iguanas and dragon(the iguanas with igguanas and vise versa.) so i brought them home and they were both in their own cage. and neither was doing better. so i started giving them baths together and they seemed to like each others company. so they both went back into there seperate cages. neither was eating or shedding like they should be. so i put them together to see if it made a difference and now both of them eat better and are shedding right now. neither show signs of agression. if they did they would both be in seperate cages. i dont fool with stuff like that.
