My ATB shed??

jay111 Jan 27, 2004 08:15 PM

Hey, I have 2 adult atb's, and one of them seems to have no interest in shedding. my temps and humidity are real good, it just seems he's "uninterested" in shedding. maybe he's lazy. just wondering if anyone knew what was up with that, cuz hand-assisting him is asking for a handful of teeth.

P.S. I have already tried soaking and some extra misting, nothing yet seems to provoke him to actually do the shedding

Well for starters, I used to do the wong thing for about 5 years. I saw a shed comming about, and began to mist the hell out of the tank, Not good
I cant stress NO-MISTING enough the animal does not need the water on it,or arround it. Joe P. from DGS has a great theory on this one, and it works. If your humidity is good than dont mist, because the tap water upon evaporation will leave a nice crispy residue on the skin(lime calicum ect.). Over all if the animal is in a high humidity env. than dont tempt fate. Just let nature run its course.
In my predicament the damage was done, and you need to take other measures. I use a VERy VERY thin snake bag that is very rough on the inside. Then I place it into a warm water bath and sqeeze as much water out as i can with my hands. Then I spray the animal LIGHTLY with Trex-Bio Mist, and place it into the slightly wet bag. Leave it in the cage and I guarentee the skin can be pulled of easily and Watch those teeth. Oh YEA Dont Drown the snake in water it can Drown very easily in this situation

well i went ahead with the warm water bath, and followed it up with a (careful) assist which he took unusually well since he likes handling about as much as we like a kick in the groin. The skin was literally hanging off of him b4 i even bathed him, he had rubbed his face around enough to peel his eyecaps and "chin" and prettymuch quit from there. (he still has a little "beard", i sure as hell wasnt peeling it for him). So he looks pretty good now, a few spots here and there, but overall ok. Any other input for a better shed next time welcome and appreciated.
