Do electronic rodent control/detterent devices harm geckos/remptiles?

all4sky Jan 27, 2004 10:14 PM

Just wondering if anyone knows if those electronic rodent control plug-ins harm reptiles in any way? The packaging say's its safe to use on pets besides rodents, but I'm not sure. I would hate for my Leos and reptiles to be hearing a high-pitched sound 24/7. Thanks

Women and children often hear higher pitched noises, and some people hear at even higher ends of the spectrum, than the average woman or child. Like me. Now my hearing has been tested and I've been told by doctors that my hearing goes beyond the normal range of human ability, but I don't believe I'm the only person in the world who can hear high pitches. My neighbor got one of those and I thought I was going to go nuts. They couldn't hear it. I on the other hand would have run away if I was a rodent but I lived there and worked at home so was tortured with that noise for weeks until I could get them to disable it.

Because I could hear this thing, even on the lowest setting that humans supposedly weren't supposed to be able to hear (the thing even said some women and kids may hear it on the high setting), I don't trust that pets of any kind won't hear it (I'm sure they have individual variation too)...or humans either.

Sorry for the rant. It was horrible and stressful experience and I wouldn't want any person or pet to go through what I did.

Those sonic pest deterrents are a creation of beezlebub.

Ditto, I hear high pitch noise quite a bit, really annoying.

Do common pest species of insects even HAVE ears?
And if you can hear it, that means that hundreds of dogs and cats across the country are suffering. Ick. Not to mention birds.
I have sensitive hearing too, and if it were me I would have solved the situation with some sort of baseball bat... you must be a saint.

It reveals the depth to which evolution can sink when it takes the downward path and strips animals to the irreducible minimum able to perpetuate a predatory life in its naked horror."

. . . do you, perchance, have large teeth and whiskers? Do you have abnormal attraction to cheese?

Just kidding. When they first came out - decades ago - they were a god-send for famers with rodent problems.

Actually, a lot of things about me are abnormal. My senses are all more acute than humans are supposed to have (comes in handy most of the time), and my body temperature is only 97. Some people claim that people with low body temperature have been abducted by aliens, but I don't remember anything like that ever happening.
