not eating?

chaoscat Jan 27, 2004 11:40 PM

Wow, I never thought I'd have to post this about my rainbows.

My male ate just fine, but my female refused. So I tried the paper bag method-listened to her start eating, then when I thought she was done, I opened the bag to check-and she had spit it back out.

She ate just fine two weeks ago. I've been feeding them both every two weeks, maybe I should start feeding every three?

Cat,
My thoughts are that whether you feed every 2 or 3 weeks would depend on the size meal fed, and age of the snakes. My experience with "not rights" are less than my experiences with "all okays". I think it wise to determine if the meal was spit up(as you said) or actually regurgitated. I think there is a big difference. If it was swallowing and stopped/reversed feeding it simply may be that she was disturbed too soon. Before getting too worried, I would look at all your environmental factors and make adjustments if needed.

By the way, the babies I got from you ate tonight and are both doing well. They had their first shed here and have not bitten me for 10 days or so. Thanks again,
Linda

I figured out what I was doing wrong. I had more than one light on and had her out of the cage!!! She only eats in the cage-when I put her back in the paper bag and left her for 40 minutes, she had it down in no time flat.

I'm glad the babies are doing so good for you! Glad they are not biting-they have sharp little teeth
