Feeding

DeltaWoods Jun 06, 2003 11:05 PM

I have heard many people talking about feeding their snake 2 mice during one feeding. I am going to try this but i have a question. How much time should pass between each mouse? Do i give him the second one as soon as hes done witht he first or what? thanks

My guy generally lets me know when he is wanting the second. Shortly after he swallows the first one all the way down and resets, he will look up and start flicking his tongue, searching for another mouse. Actually, the first time he did this was when I knew he would need two mice rather than one at each feeding. Once he is searching, I offer him the second mouse. Occasionally, if he is just getting ready to shed, he will eat the one and then go under his log, not searching for a second one (his appetite always goes down a bit right before shedding). Once he has shed though, he wants his mice IMMEDIATELY, and there better be at least two!

So then you feed him in his tank? Not a separate "feeding tank"?

Yes, he has always just eaten in his tank, but he is so totally mellow. I work with children with autism, and he has kids holding him on a daily basis, playing with him, stretching him out to measure him, etc.. So it has never been a problem to feed him in his tank. I know it can be a problem with some snakes though. My friend had a red tail boa that he made the mistake of feeding in her tank, and now you cannot reach in there at all without her attempting to strike you. I'm not sure if all BP's are different, or just good old Monty!
