I don't think that terrarium setups have become much more advaneced in the past few years. If you know about using LECA, false bottoms, and pea gravel, you've probably covered the drainage systems of 90% of the setups used here. Of course, some use a sump system or a drilled drain, but that's not really new either.
Misting systems are still the same, but have come down in prices . . . a little. It's still impossible to buy a commercial system for less than about $100. I'm trying to change that with the help of some other hobbyists . . . but that's a different story.
As for substrates, I think that coconut based substrates are becoming more en vogue now that Sri Lanka is producing a lot of coco-based products as environmentally renewable resources. Fewer people are using tree fern products because of the ever-increasing cost and the environmental impact.
Of course, compact fluorescents are all the rage right now, and prices are coming down to allow them to be more economical. I don't know what else . . . is any of this really new in the past few years? It all kinda depends on what you were into at the time and what you use now. You know, terrarium building is always about personal preferences . . . that's half of what makes it so much fun.
