HELP! Selling their iguana on E-Bay!!

girlzilla Jan 28, 2004 08:22 AM

Okay, I was on E-Bay yesterday, looking for an outside sunning cage for Bud. I found one I liked, and it said it is "currently the home of our 3 foot iguana." It looked fine for the iguana to me, so I wrote them to ask why they were selling the cage. Were they building a new one?

They wrote back to say they are "downsizing their pet collection" (!!!) and to "call them for more details" about the situation. SO I want to cal them back and give them info about rescues. They are in North Carolina... HELP!

Here's the e-bay entry, if you want to see the iguana, who is beautiful.

Wow, are they selling the iguana too? I don't think they can sell critters on e-bay. Unless their just advertising the cage and secretly giving the ig with it. Do they have a place for their ig if it doesn't go with the cage? I hope they have good intensions for their ig. I don't know what to do to help. If you notify e-bay they might get suspended and then who know's what will happen to the ig. I guess I would just try to find out exaclty what they plan to do with the ig. and then offer info. if you have it.

They aren't advertising that the iguana is for sale, but I get the feeling from their letter to me, and from the fact that they will not ship the cage- it is "pick up only"- that if you buy the cage, well, you'll probably get the iguana for free.

I'll call them soon, to see if the situation is okay and they have a plan, or if they need help, but I need North Carolina rescue information first.

Here is the web address to one iguana rescue in N.C. There are a lot more in N.C. I hope this helps.

They're nice people, just really flaky. They don't have any plans for the iguana, but they're selling his cage on E-Bay! What do you think about that! I can't believe some people.

So I talked to them, and they said yes, they'd like some adoption info, and that sounded like a good idea, so I sent them a very nice, cordial e-mail with NC rescue info in it. I told them that going through a rescue would help them find someone who would take good care of their iguana, not just someone who wants a cool-looking cage that just happens to come with a live animal. They said they'd let me know what happens, so let's hope these silly people don't end up making their iguana's life hell. Geez.

It seems like lately I can't look anywhere without seeing an iguana that needs a new home.

Some people just don't make sense sometimes. What were they thinking? They want to downsize their pets...ok lets get rid of our iguanas home and maybe it will move out??? I'm pussled, why would they get rid of the cage without knowing what is going to happen to the occupant. I know you are thinking the same thing. I'm glad you were able to hopfully help them. Gotta go I'm gunna sell my house real quick. LOL. Maybe I should ask my wife first.
LOL. People are weird sometimes. You just have to have a sense of humor when dealing with them or you'll go crazy. Are you trying to buy the cage? good luck

Because then they would at least be encouraged to give it to the rescue WITH the iguana. I think it was the sort of thing where when the buyer would go pick up the cage, they would say, "Oh, by the way- it comes with the iguana!" At least they aren't willing to ship- imagine opening a package to find a "free" iguana inside.

I could imagine that. Opening the cage and out pops this 4 ft. iguana chasing you around the house. Imagine the mailman with something moving and scratching around in a box.
