what morph is this guy?

Becky Jun 06, 2003 11:41 PM

I added a bunch of pics of one of my corns to my site. I was wondering if anyone could tell me what morph he may be? I've seen lesser quality okeetees and hypos that kind of look like him, and normals and wild caughts...but I'm not really sure where you draw the line between these morphs. What do you think he looks like?

Okeetees are selectively-bred normal snakes...they should have thick, black borders around their blotches and a bright orange background color.

Hypo is a genetic trait that reduces the amount of black. Hypos usually can be distinguished easily by the presence of 'faded' belly checks, that are gray instead of black.

THe appearence of wild-caught and captive-bred normals can vary widely, from an almost-okeetee look, to an almost-miami look, and just about anything in between.

A really nice site you have. Chuckled at Steve's enclosure and the fifteen foot cornsnake. Clever and really funny.

They had them at Walmart and toy stores for a while. Haven't seen any for a long time. They came with different animals in each package and they talk There was even a Terry one.

Hi Becky,
That is a very beautiful Normal Corn. It is also an excellent example of what got me and most us older corn snake enthusiasts interested in corns to begin with.
It is still hard for most morphs to beat a beauty like that.

Thanks Jimmy. I am glad to know others think he's pretty even with all these bold colored morphs everywhere. He was my first corn...actually my first ever reptile. Although I didn't stay with snakes, it is his fault that I have so many herps now

I named my first corn "Irwin" after the Irwins. I liked the show a lot better when it wasn't scripted and staged, but Irwin remains one of my favorite snakes. Good luck.
