I'm trying to find a good source for affordable harlan rodent feed. preferably the harlan 2018. I'm trying to find out if i can find it at a local feed store or if i have to go to a mill or what. Any ideas would be great. Thanks Chris

If you are willing to try a different brand, Kent feeds makes one that works great, and the price will blow you away. (I pay under $10 for 50lbs) do a search, find their site and see if they have a store near you.

I found a Kent Feed supplier by me. What I want to know is what is the name of the food like adult prime, active dog? Also are you sure it is in a 50LB bag or is it 40 or less? The reason that I ask is the two names that I mentioned to you are sold in 40lb bags and are like 20 dollars a bag. Last is the size of the food? Do you have problems with it falling through wire mesh? Thank you for your help. Marty Hartman

It is called Rodent diet, it is made for mice and rats, it is in 50lb bags. He may not stock it, but if he calls he can get it. Craig Kade

so far the closest dealer i've found is in colorado. I'm in utah. I have also found a local reptile breeder here in utah that has his own feed made by a local mill. Thanks again, Chris

"5L42 Rodent Breeder Diet", manufactured by PMI Nutrition International,LLC , P.O. Box 19798, Brentwood, MO 63144. 50# bag retails for $19.95 at most feed stores. Crude Protein is 20.0% min., Crude Fat is 5.0% min, Drude Fiber is 6.0% max., and Ash is 8.0% max. In a personal group study, "5L42 Rodent Breeder Diet" has provent to yield the largest pinkies, consitant large litter size, and consitant production in mice and rats. I was mistaken in an earlier discussion saying it was Harland Breeder Formula. We used google.com to find comparative formulas of all rodent diets PMI Nutrition International and 5L42 has been removed but will not be discontinued. If anyone wants I can write down the actual contient on the label. Our group study did find that Pedigree Adult maintenance and Old Roy dog foods fed twice a week as treat to ICR X Fancy mice feeder to Graybands proved benifcial to fincky hatchling Graybands feeding responses to pinkies without scenting. It is also noted that Old Roy dog food has shown mice to favor it over other feed, but should not be main course. Any one with comments would be appreciated.

Thanks for the info. It seems that the Mazuri Rodent chow I use is pretty good. I started adding a little Ole Roy because some of my mice were scratching (it's really dry around here). The extra oil in the dog food seemed to help. Then too, Mazuri only has 16% protein and I wanted a little more. I just started adding a little too much Old Roy to the mix and things started backsliding... so now I'm back to adding a handful of gamecock seed mixture and Old Roy combination only three times a week like I used to do and await the return of better productivity.
