Question About Breeding Beauty Snakes?

Charlotte Jan 28, 2004 11:13 AM

I've been dying to breed my blues for a year or so now.
My male is 8 feet and ROBUST, my female is about 6-7 feet and isn't as robust as the male... I've been trying to pump her full of food and everything has been going great (she's been eating 3 med. rats weekly--which leaves a good size lump on her) until 2 weeks ago. She'll only eat one... and then either spit the 2nd one out or act totally ticked that you would even THINK she'd eat another one! She gets very antsy and ticked-off. Last night I offered food again, the first rat--no interest at all... the 2nd she ate after I layed it in the cage floor and walked off... (she didn't eat the first)... I offered her another the same way as the one she ate... she started to eat it and then spit it out...
She also just recently (last week) shed...
I haven't cooled them.
My male is also a great feeder, and he wouldn't eat last night and has been extra pissy.

Could this be a sign that she's ovulating? Or could it just mean that her biological clock is telling her " hibernate time" and she's not wanting to eat much...

Also, what is a good weight for a soon-to-breed female?
Thanks!
Charlotte

I think you offer too much food.
It would be too much even if your snake were Taiwans, which are heavier and thicker than blues...

Offer one medium rat every 8-10 days and it would be better....

P.S. Safer less than too much...
