TEMPERATURE FOR CORN SNAKES........a couple questions...

cv768 Jan 28, 2004 11:29 AM

We built a rack and it keep the rubbermaids at 93F on the hot side and 83 F on the cold side...correct me if I'm wrong but this seems a little too hot...the heat turns off at night and lets the rubbermaids go down to about 73F...

How can I release more heat from the rubbermaids???

Will making more holes in the lid and sides help?

We are currently heating it with rope lighting and it works perfectly just the temperature is a little off I think....

any suggestions or advice would be appreciated.

Can you wire the rope to a dimmer switch or a rheostat? That would be the best way to regulate it's output down some. Don't know if it will tolerate it though. Those temps are gonna cook your snakes. I think I would go to some flexwatt tape.

Failure is not an option. It comes bundled with the software.

I would just look at purchasing a rheostat from any pet store that carries under tank heaters. The picture below is the one I built really cheap < $7. However, I wouldn't recommend building your own unless you are confident in your electrical skills. This could be a big fire hazard if you don't know what your doing. Anyway, here is a commerical version that sells for ~$20.
