Dumerils info needed please help!

QUEENOFDUMS Jan 28, 2004 12:46 PM

My dumerils have been copulating since 12/15/2003. I am worried that when the female ovulates I will not provide heat fast enough. They are still cooling at night. should I raise temps for her to ovulate or leave the cooler nights? I have heard that ovulation is not visible and they can shed more than once during the breeding cycle so it is not necessarily a p.o.s. They copulated on sunday night and since then no action. my male just came out of shed on friday night so he was well rested. I dont know if there are any other signs i should look for ( to determine ovulation) or if I should provide heat? Thankyou all for reading this post and for any advise. Bea

Usually, when the male loses interest in breeding it is time to start warming them up, as insurance you can give the female a modest meal after she is warm enough, if she takes it put the male back in the next day or so, that can sometimes stimulate ovulation... good luck with that.

P.S. I gotta say, it sort of cracks me up to give advice on these animals to the QUEENOFDUMS..

Well, you should notice swelling in your females, along with inverted laying at times, and as Gus indicated the male will lose interest, though I don't think he was trying to say your female is gravid for sure now since he hasn't shown interest since Sunday. Depending on how long you've been cycling, go ahead and start returning to your normal temps and give the female an available hot spot, she will use it when it's time. Keep doing introduction with the increase in DTH/NTL's and everything should come together for you. And relax, rest assured people produce dumerils without putting in half the effort you seem to be. Best of luck, take care!

Thanks for your advise I will take it and experiment. As for the name I guess that goes back to the saying never judge a book by its cover. Its just that most of the breeders I know don't breed dumerils so I want to make sure I make no mistakes. The forum is the only place I could get more info. I don't know what I would do without it. I would probably produce a litter of slugs. Isn't that what we all wish for anyways.L.O.L.
