ZooMed Habba Mist

atrax27407 Jan 28, 2004 01:45 PM

Has anyone had any experience good or bad with the Habba Mist by ZooMed? I find that I am going to have to do something to increse the humidity during the winter for my Anoles. The result is that I am either going to have to build a timed system or buy one.

I have the mister and the only reason I have kept it is because I have no room for a fogger in my Terrarium. I recommend getting one of these if you can but if you are like me and just have no more room in the tank then here is my review on the mister.

1. Size. Do not believe what you see in the pictures this thing is friggen huge the benefit is you can put it on the outside of your terrarium. I recommend putting it on the outside no matter what and put it behind something like a fountain or backdrop so it does not mess with their environment. This thing will stress them enough as it is.

2. Misting. Ok now this takes patience. You have to test over and over again. Tighten the cap to tight and you get more drip than mist, and if it is to loose then you get a steady stream of water. Do this before you put it near the tank.

3. Noise. OH MY GOD! This thing is the loud! Make sure to turn it off at night or your anoles will get no sleep. It is like a Mac truck starting up (not exactly but I wanted to get my point across). On the plus side your anoles will get use to it. In fact if your anoles are not jumpy to begin with you may have no problems at all. My males is jumpy and took about a week + to get use to it. While my female never even batted an eyelash at it.

4. Stress to your anole. This WILL stress your anole, But what the heck doesn't, any changes you make are bound to stress your anole to some point.

5. Features. I like the features on this thing You can set it for 1, 3, 6, or 12 hours and spray at 15, 30, 45, and etc (Only ones I use so I can not remember how high it goes) You can play with these until you get the desired humidity levels.

So, my opinion is to use this as a last resort. I recommend the Fogger, but one thing I found out about this device is that it is a shock hazard and you have to build a protective area around the water so that your anole can not get to it. I am told it provide really good humidity levels though. Maybe someone would Like to review the Fogger so we can get an idea how much of a pain it is to set up?

Well I hope this helped some.

Thanks for that review of the mister - I'm in the process of trying to decide what I want to get for my anole tanks, and was wavering between the mister and the fogger. I would love to hear about the fogger if anyone has used one.
