Great Basin Gophers...John C

DeanAlessandrini Jan 28, 2004 02:10 PM

Hey John,

I was looking at your web site and I have to say that the Pit I was most surprised and impressed with was the Great Basin gopher.

Is that an unusually coloful specimen?

It looks like a HOSS to...
What's there typical size as adults?

Thanks,
Dean

Those are a good looking group of great basins a friend gave me on a breeder loan. They are pretty big for great basins at about 4 1/2 - 5' and very heavy bodied. They are long term captives he caught over a couple of years as hatchlings. We are looking forward to breeding them this year in the group are 2.5 that are all fairly consistent in color and pattern. I also got some of the offspring from last year and the contrast is being to show on them also.

Great Basins are one of the underrated pituophis in my opinion. They really have some nice pattern and ground colors. I think what throws people off is that I see alot of integrates on the pics posted. The pure ones are killer.
