Baytril Questions

jacksonsrule Jan 28, 2004 04:33 PM

I've seen Baytril for sale on a few pet pharmacy type sites.
It's advertised as a treatment for dogs and cats. Is this
the same Baytril I've read about being used on Chameleons
for infections? Or, is there a "reptile" version of the product?

I think I'm needing to get the oral drops. Any advice as to what
exactly to get and where to get it would be MUCH appreciated.

thanks!

Oral Baytril is banned in the US, but a vet can compound
a oral form for you. The generic name is enrofloxacin, and
is commonly used on dogs and cats. It is a broad spectrum
antibiotic.

It's very dangerous to give Baytril without vet supervision. It can highly toxic, especially to liver & kidneys. And the concentrations sold for dogs and cats are often way too high for a cham unless you have a microsyringe to deliver it. It is a poor investment to try to save a few bucks on a vet visit only to kill the cham with owner-prescribed Baytril. Son't do it.
