REAL PLANTS WITH BEARDIES

kyle_rex Jan 28, 2004 11:02 PM

i would like to know what kinds of real plants are good to put in my my beardie, like one's where if he decides to take a bite wont hurt him in any way.

Would a Venus Fly Trap be safe? i think they're pretty cool plants

A. Your beardie WILL eat any plant you put in with it. Heck, mine's tried to eat newspaper and my fingers.

B.Venus fly traps are from swamps. So even if the dragon didn't eat them they'd last about 2 days.

SO, WHAT PLANTS ARE SAFE AND LOOK GOOD IN HIS ENCLOSURE?

meretseger Jan 29, 2004 01:15 AM

Well... they're only going to look good for... 5 minutes to 2 hours depending on the size of the dragon. Anyway, potted plants from stores have fertilizer on them and should sit for 6 weeks before being consumed... er... displayed.
Beyond that, I can't think of any plants that are both edible and able to survive in hot, dry environments.

I wondered that myself after mine ate part of a spider plant. I put silk plants for a fishtank in mine. He doesn't eat them, they look great and are easy to clean.

It is much better to just use silk plants in the tank. Less likely for th dragon to eat them, trample them or for the heat lights to bake the plant to death. That being said, below is a link to a site with a very good list of what plants are safe to put in with dragons.
