Oscar,
Try turning the cage on end and hang some 2" diameter ABS pipes from the ceiling and upper walls. Those tristis want to go up, and to hide as high as they can get. If you give it a hide tube near the ceiling it will likely spend less time trying to get through the wire, and be less likely to end up with toasted toes.

get rid of the screen on top

It dries out the enclosure, anyway (and your monitor)

From the first second or so of glancing at this pic, this message screams out to me... "Im not secure at all in my habitat, and Im trying to find a way out NOW!!" Its not so much the top thats a problem(although screen tops DO suck at retaining humidity), but lack of adaquete shelter/ hides/ substrate, etc. A bigger enclosure would be nice for this animal, but better hides a.s.a.p. will help to ease his present anxiety. Really, thats what it is... anxiety(lack of security). Stress kills, so think about it soon.

Best wishes!

haha, silly me. Didn't even look at the rest of the cage, just got stuck on the screen top. My first monitor enclosure had one of those and it sucked, so the screen top screamed out at me.

Now that I have looked at the rest of the cage, it's clear sumherper is right. It is very bare in there, Oscar, get that animal some cage furniture!

Only its screaming, give me more heat. But its whispering all the rest of what you said. Cheers F

I would suggest putting some hides in there, and some more stuff for it to play on.I had this problem with my male freck,He had lots of hides lot of substrate and his cage had a sceen top, which wasn't to dry.the screen top gave ventilation so my pair wasn't breething stank air all the time,my males problem was he wasn't hot enough and he just wanted to climb. He is now in a 4x2x2 malamane tank with no screen top and he still climbs on anything he can.so my suggestion is check your temps, give more hides and maybe a little more stufff for him/her to play on.

Screen in the end where I mounted a ceramic heat emitter on top and the light bulb inside for higher temps, off to the side a few inches away was a flourescent light assembly that was melting and bowing inwards. That monitor (small hatchling)slept almost all night every night on that flourescent light (there were belly scale marks melted in the plastic). I asked my self why does he lay on that light so much so I measured the surface temps, they were 122-135, I asked myself why would he lay in that high of temps unless it was useful or beneficial. Ya know I put a 135 degree basking spot in the cage and he stopped climbing up on the light.
Next the wire went because the cage got so dry that the animal soaked alot.
