My little frilled wont eat

lazandlouie Jan 28, 2004 11:23 PM

Its been about 3 days now, and my 4 month old frilled dragon wont eat, hes eating a few crickets maybe 5 in the last few days, but i think its because he can see me. I've heard that as babies they shouldnt see to much human interaction bc of stress issues so I put a towel over a certain side of his cage, but its hard to put dusted crickets in his cage without him seeing me, he'll eat until he sees me, then he'll show his frill, run, and not eat anymore. Does anyone have a solution, and is him seeing me the problem or even a problem? Thanks Everyone!!

I had a similar problem with my female. She would only eat about 6 crickets a week. It took her some time but she eventually started eating more and more. She took about a month and a half to adapt, I also have cats and after I kept them out of the room my frilled was in for a month, she chilled out. Now, the cats can be sitting at the bottom of her cage and she'll eat just fine. So it might be just the dragon getting adjusted. I'm still new to keeping a frilled, but that was my experience.

Good luck!

As long as the crickets stay in the cage, just feed and leave, they will likely eat them later when they feel comfortable. You can also increase heat and water to try to stimulate appetite.

Just have to say, one of the best things about US captive bred frillies--they typically eat from the hand as little babies!

all that was previously said is agreed. my frilled also will usually only eat if a cricket goes right in front of him ( he's very lazy) i usally feed him directly out of a glass jar filled with crickets this way i can monitor how many he is eating. good luck and you're doing the right thing by trying to keep the distractions down.
