Getting my FIRST HOGG Tomorrow!!!!....Any suggestions or Comments

lanierreptiles Jan 29, 2004 12:21 AM

Hey! I have been into snakes since I was young. I have only kept and bred ball pythons. This will be my first BOA...And its a Hogg. There is a local "Reptile" shop in town that deals with only REPTILES and this SWEET girl came in on a trade today while i was shopping around. I HAD TO HAVE HER!!! I paid a deposit today and will pay the rest tomorrow when i pick her up. I will post pics when I get her home. Really PINK with Blue blotches and that orange tail....I fell in love! I would like to hear comments and suggestions from all you BOA experts as to how I need to have her enclosure set up. REMEMBER...I have only kept PYTHONS before. Im not new to snakes..just new to boas!! I have a 3 foot neodesha as her enclosure with a under tank heat pad. I have been doing some research, but what is a good temp. and humidity for Hoggs? Thanks for your help. I will post pics of her tomorrow...She is about 2 1/2- 3 feet long and was told to be around 2 years old...sound about right?

Well... mine is a baby, and very much enjoys sleeping in a macaroni and cheese box. She has other hidespots but prefers that one the most. So I'd recommend some sort of larger pasta or cereal box for yours. She's my first boa c., too, so I'm way too new to it to know if I'm doing anything else right.

It reveals the depth to which evolution can sink when it takes the downward path and strips animals to the irreducible minimum able to perpetuate a predatory life in its naked horror."

Good luck with your new Hog. They are amazing boas. It sounds to me that the cage is fine, just don't forget the hide box and maybe a branch of some sort because Hogs seem to enjoy climbing.
Good luck,
Eric
