Just thought I would post a pic of my '01 W/C black rat.....

Hotshot Jan 29, 2004 07:17 AM

A little background info..
I caught this guy in '01 and he was only a few days old. Had his first shed within a week of capture, started eating soon after and never looked back. He is right around 54" and is still putting on the size. Just amazing how these guys seem to start punding on the weight at about 2 years old. He was so long and skinny forever it seemed, and now he is thickening up very good! Very mellow, has never even nipped!
Hope you all enjoy!!

He's gorgeous.

I know what you mean about them being long and skinny for ages. I have a grey rat snake, I can't wait till she starts thickening out. She only turned 1 last October so I've got plenty of time to wait.

Do you have any idea how big she'll end up?

Kat.

Kat
Thanks
Yeah I know what you mean about waiting for them to put on weight. Here is my '02 albino black rat. He is the same way, long and skinny. But this fall or so he should start putting on the weight.

Post some pics of your grey! I really like grey rats too! Shoot, if its a North American rat snake, I like it!! LOL Your grey should reach a respectable 4' easily. Probably close to 5'. They can get to be around 6', and they are a very nice looking snake.

They average about five feet in length. Remember that is just an average, and they keep growing as they get older.

I have four Grays myself, and I just think they are great looking snakes. Mine are less then a year old, and love to climb. Good luck with yours.

It's great to hear there's someone else out ther who appreciates the gorgeous looks of greys.

Do u have any pics of urs?

Will post some of 'Amazon' next week.

Did you find it in your neck o' the woods, or were you traveling about. Very impressive. Duffy

Duffy
Thanks!
I caught him in the southern part of Bullitt county KY. He seems to have alot more yellow in him than alot of the black rats I have seen around here. Dont know why. Thinking maybe of breeding him either this year or next year and see what kind of offspring he throws. I know I would have to breed the offspring back to him to see if they will produce more of these yellow looking black rats. He has a grey head, instead of a black or darker head. So Im thinking maybe he has lots of gray rat influence? Dont know.

Nice looking Black Rat Brian. I've always been a big fan of the North American Ratsnakes, but have never owned one until now. I just purchased a nice Bairdi Ratsnake a little over a week ago from Tim at Vivid Reptiles. I should have bought one of these a long time ago.
Very interesting with the amount of yellow on your guy. I see many black rats in my area (Virginia), and most that I see, pretty much are your typical black in color mixed with various amounts of white along the body. Anyway, very nice obsoleta Brian.

Number 1: Greatlooking black rat snake. He would be a nice mate for my female Guthrie, Kentucky '01 CH black rat snake.

Number 2: How did I miss you had a pair of Cal Kings?

Terry

Well Terry
I still am thinking about your offer! Havent come to a conclusion yet.

And the female cal king isnt old enough to breed yet. Maybe in 2 years. She is just now going on 2 years old, and not big enough. Both are coastal.
