fluval splashes and makes that white film...how to clean

brokermonkey Jan 29, 2004 08:41 AM

my fluval is sorta splashing (i cut the hose too short) and it's making this hard white stuff on the side of the glass aquarium. how do i clean that?

and i plan on putting a brick under my filter so that the hose line isnt too short. lol.

and i have a fluval 304 for my 46 gallon aquarium. how often do i clean it out? and the python will have enough suction to take out the stuff laying on the bottom of the tank?

thanks

i'll try to post a pic tomorrow.

The white spots on the glass are calcium/lime/mineral deposits from good ol' fashioned hard water. There are chemicals that can clean this but those are usually very toxic and you don't want to jeopardize your turtles, even if you think you rinsed thoroughly.

I get good results using regular white vinegar, which doesn't harm them at all.

If you have good filteration, you should only have to completely empty, dismantle, and clean the entire tank just a handfull of times a year.

Try filling your tank up the rest of the way.
