Help with a new half and half set up

Well I just got my hands on a hand me down 30 gallon tank. I want to do a half & half set up. i want to put soil for live plants and a water fall useing a small old powerfilter from a old tank of mine But i can not figure out how to hide the filter. I have already put in the glass divider in. any help would be great

First, I would use a layered approach to the substraight on the land side. Use some pea gravel or Terra Lite (something that will drain well) first, then cover it with landscaping cloth, then your planting mixture like Jungle Mix.

For the water feature, why not use an external canister filter, like an Eheim. That way you can draw the water out of the tank, filter it and return it to you water fall. With a canister filter, you will have the added benifit of mechanical, chemical and biological filtration. However, a sump would be the ideal set-up.
