PICKLES as GUT-LOAD?

DragonZ Jan 29, 2004 03:14 PM

As I was cutting up a piece of Zuchinni to put in w/ the crickets I saw this big jar of pickles on the counter and thought: "lots of water soaked in those cucumbers" also a lot of vinegar so I was wondering if in turn the vinegar in the crickets would harm the Dragon?

ANYBODY TRIED IT?

I'm also thinking about making clear gelatin and giving the crickets/ worms Jell-O cubes.

Egg Layer mash chicken food is much more nutritionally sound is probably cheaper than pickles. And then you can do the gelatin. That seems more logical. Egg layer mash a nice dry food that does not go bad if kept dry. It contains protien, a little fat, vitamins and minerals all of which will be of use to your dragon. A pickle is of basically no use to your dragon. Egg layer mash is also about $0.14/lb.

Mostly for the liquid but they will probably eat as well. Not to replace the dry stuff.

the folks at sticky tongue (miner-all) told me that chicken mash was not good as a gut load. have you been using it long?

Exclusively for over a year. As a meal/superworm bedding. Got the idea from someone that used it for several years. Only problem I have seen is that the crickets do not eat the corn. So you just mix it up occasionally. In general egg layer mash is non medicated so it presnets no health risk to the crickets or dragons. I am almost willing to bet that the ingridient list is almost identical to other gutloads except it has corn. I will look into that statement.
