haven't posted in a while so i'm gonna ask some questions...

Hey, its been a while since I have visited the forums. I am just gonna ask some things. I have 1.2 leopard geckos that are about 7-8 months old, they are about 40 grams each (thats what I can get out of a crappy scale). I am planning on taking the male out and putting him in a large rubbermaid until the females get big enough to mate.
I feed them about 50 mealworms to the leos each night and haven't noticed one of my females eating. She seems healthy although she is shy and doesn't like showing her face. I turned down the lights and left the room to see if she would eat. About 15 minutes later I peaked in and saw her sticking her head out of her hide and looking at the mealworms. She doesn't lose any weight but I don't see her eat. I guess this is because leos are nocturnal.
One more thing I want to ask is, are waxworms okay o feed to leos? I put 3-6 waxworms in their dish each night and they gobble them up. I just want to know if I am poisoning them or not. I feed the waxworms honey that has been baked on newspaper.
Thanks for the input and tell me if I am doing anything wrong. I am planning on getting 3 or 4 scorpions to creep people out but my mom thinks they are evil and come from satan. Well she didn't say that but she thinks they are evil. I think they are cool and remind me of an alien from TV.

Thanks,
Owen C.

I have read many times that waxworms are okay as a treat, not every nite.. like a few a month are fine..
two reasons for this:
1. they are very addictive and sometimes leos will refuse all other food, if fed a lot of waxworms.
2. they don't offer much nutritional value except fat... think of them as a gecko twinkie, i've been told
hope this helps, at least one of your questions.

Your female may be shy, my male is a bit like that too. I used to have to put his crickets in his cage and then leave or he wouldnt eat. If I were to stand around the corner I could hear him pouncing on them but if I came up to watch he'd hide. You could try just leaving the mealies in a bowl for her if she prefers to eat at night, that might help until she gets a little more used to humans.
Waxworms are most leos favorate food, but not the healthiest. Like chocolate for humans. Sometimes the leos will refuse food if given too many, wont eaat anything else besides them, so I'd slow down to maybe 7 a week, or 1 a day. I've actually fed over this a few times with no addictions occuring (lol) but i wouldnt recomend it. Good luck

Leo's eat scorpions btw... (the little ones). I wouldn't try it though, but your mom might if she ever finds out and you do get them.

I guess I'll slow down the waxworm feeding, maybe I'll take some time to get moths and try to breed them. Does anyone know if and breediers have scorpions at the Lititz show in PA.

Thanks
Owen C.
