Anyone no the difference between melanistic and anerythristic ? will both produce snow if bred back after breeding them with a albino ?
Anery is a lack of red. Melanistic is an unusually high amount of black. So... both mixed with albino would theoretically create an almost pure white animal, but anery does it by taking away red pigment whereas melanism just obscures it. The word 'snow' means different things in different herps.

Melanistic x albino wouldn't create a white animal... because the red would still be there... erm.. theoretically. I've never actually seen a melanistic x albino animal, so this is all theory. I've seen plenty of albino x anery animals though. They're pretty white.

Thanks meretseger.
Anyone else ? I maybe wrong, but hasn't some one crossed a melanistic variable king to an albino ruthens, bred the babys back and produced white snakes ? AAA reptiles.
I'd like to see a picture of that. Not every melanistic gene necessarily works like the next, so in one case you might get a white snake, but maybe not in the next.
Melanistic morphs are either rare or not very popular, because you don't see them very often. Although... there is a black leopard gecko, you might want to look into what happens when that's crossed with albino.
