watery feces

lanietx Jan 30, 2004 08:08 AM

hi,
this is continued from a post further down on the forum. i moved it to the top so it wouldn't get lost.

yesterday, i noticed my male made a watery poop. of course now i am extremely worried! this morning he went and made a very small poop. again, it had the white, but the rest was watery.

he is drinking, but i haven't seen him eat in the last 24 hours. of course he could have ate sometime in the night without me seeing him. he is the smaller of all my geckos. now that i am looking at him i am afraid he may have lost weight, but it could be me being paranoid.

i wouldn't dare take him to a vet in my area! i am going to call around today to see if i can take a poop sample to a local vet.

what would they be looking/testing for?????

and what are the medications that i might possible need for the ailment?

once diagnosed.....
can medications be bought online?
if so, where?

also, is there anything that can be given as a preventative to prevent various ailments?

i really hope i am just being paranoid!

thanks !!!!

if the feces itself is not brownish and solid like i think Sarah said, it could be parasites. if his poop is solid but has a liquid around it, it means he is well hydrated, as for what they would be looking, for im no expert on herp illnesses but there are many Coccidia,Crypto,Pinworms(worms a can be transferd to a leo through crickets)Flatworms..thats just to name a few..if he does have a worm..the vet would probably give you a prescription for Panacur(safe-guard)its a de-wormer. if he is losing weight..mostly in his tail he may have one of the illnesses listed, Good luck

A basic floatation will check for worms. A smear can detect coccidia.

If you've had your geclko for a long time, say over a year, and it has not been exposed to any other geckos (through handling/husbandry as well as direct contact), then most likely it is a food-born problem. Do you feed crickets? Could be bacterial or worms most likely if so. Do you notice any particular odor? That can be diagnostic.
