Dragon keeps getting stuck on her back or side

mellordies Jan 30, 2004 12:18 PM

My girl often stands on her back legs with her fronts on the glass watching the outside world, wich is all good, 'till she falls on her side and gets like paralized. Also, I have a nice branch over hanging her pool, and I have found her hanging off it by only her back legs, upside down, with her head under water, she would have drowned if I didn't find her in time. Do these problems happen often? I have had her for about 2 years now, but it just started happening recently, sometimes 2-3 times a day she stuck on her back. Is she just retarded or something? Thanks for any input.

Hi,

I had a water dragon and this used to happen to him alot. He had metabolic bone disease. He would be so clumpsy and fall off of branches and be stuck someplace unside down. He couldn't climb. He became a ground lizard because of this. Unfortunetly, he passed 2 months ago. I wish that he was properly taken care of at the pet store. The vet could not do anything to reverse the bone disease.
Anyways, Does yours have any symptoms of Bone disease? This could be a reason why its so clumpsy. Let us know.

Now that you mention it, it doesn't really seem to be the best climber, and it does fall a lot. I got her when she was 2 months, I knew the breeder,(it was inbred), and it always had UVB lights, I gave her vits and calcium drops, fed plenty on pinkies as soon as she was big enough. She also seems awfully small for a 2 year old drogon,(comparing her to her mother), hasn't seemed to grow for like 8 months, almost never sheded. What could the vet do that I can't? Thanks for your input.

Hey

You can try a vet. I am not really sure what they can do. I always had the UVB lights from the start, but I guess they didn't work really great. Are you lizards joints swollenlike? Like at the joints they may be swollen and crook ked. My dragon was very small for his age. It was like he had stunted growth. It was very sad and I miss him alot.
I do not know what a vet can do because mine grew to be handicapp and it was not reversible, he had stunted growth and just couldn't climb. Good luck!

i agree with the mbd thoughts, but as you know they can suffocate on thier back because of the lack of a diaphram. get you dragon to a vet asap and good luck.
