Help! Fire Belly Newt Escape!

emumaster17 Jan 30, 2004 01:45 PM

My new fire belly newt escaped sometime today. I came home from school and the little guy I just got last night was missing. I checked every hiding place in the tank. I took everything out of the tank. How long can they live out of water. Ive searched everywhere. Any ideas about where they might hide outside the tank. My cat might have ate him. If she did could she die? I know that they are toxic, but is it toxic enough to kill my cat?

Please any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

a newt is going to dry out and die, especially if its on a material that will soak up moisture, like carpet. Cats are usually not going to eat a newt with toxic skin, they are smarter than that (unless you starve your cat, of cousrse). though, i imagine itd toy with the newt until it died.
